Best Fishing Line For Walleye Fishing

Often people ask one thing, which fishing line is best for walleye fishing? I cannot say that there is a specific line that works for all walleye fishing applications.

Every line stands out in its specific circumstances. The performance of the line depends on the method of using it.

There are a lot of guys who don’t like to keep multiple lines at a time and continue with only one line. That’s ridiculous because they are even using one line the whole year.

It’s not bad if you keep your budget in control but what’s about running multiple rods at one time? Would you still be using only one line?

I would suggest you change your line at least a few times per year to upgrade your fishing experience.

Here I can mention that all lines vary according to the circumstances. For example, if you use a line for trolling it would work differently when you use the same for bottom bouncers.

Similarly, the line used for vertical jigging would behave differently when used for rigging.

So here is the thing, match the line with the technique you are going to use for catching walleyes.

Don’t worry because I will explain everything one by one.

Best fishing line for vertical jigging

My choice is the monofilament when fishing in shallow water. I also consider the monofilament when fishing in non-snaggy areas. Moreover for pitching jigs I recommend the same option.

I often go with a 6lb test but in the places where there are more chances of snag I sometimes recommend up to 8 lbs.

When it is about pitching I would recommend you to go with colored monofilament. This will help you to estimate the upcoming fish by seeing the bites even before pulling the line.

For that reason, I often tell people to run a short fluorocarbon leader to improve their walleye fishing experience.

While fishing deeper and the places where chances of snagging increase I would go with Fireline. Indeed mono is the first choice but in snaggy areas Fireline is recommended for less tackle.

I don’t like stretch during deep walleye trolling that’s why I often suggest mono for that purpose. But some guys use mono for the whole jigging procedure.

When it comes to monofilament fishing lines for walleyes I would prefer Sufix Elite 6 lb. test fishing line. It has proved itself the best 6 lb test fishing line with its top attributes.

For casting and pitching jigs I recommend a colored mono while for rigging I would go with a clear fishing line.

The Sufix Elite 6 lb is my favorite due to its durability, castability, and strength. The knots are also perfect with Sufix Elite 6 lb. You would come across guys who swear by mono but I would suggest you go with what’s best for you.

Best fishing line for walleye trolling

When it comes to walleye trolling the only line that fits my requirements is the power pro. You can see other options in the market too but to me, power is the best.

Because it is thin and strong so I can put my crankbaits deep enough to get walleyes. The deeper my cranks go the less loss of cranks I receive.

There is an alternate in the form of Fireline but it frays that’s why I don’t like it while catching walleyes. The Fireline frays that’s why you may end up losing your fish.

In case you got a fish at your line hook you would need to keep an eyeball on your line.

The main problem with Fireline is its fray because it can make you lose your fish just before getting it. That’s why to avoid this scenario I would suggest you go with Power Pro.

It’s all about the resistance your line offers to the water waves that’s why to choose a thinner line to reduce the resistance.

Power pro is not perfect either, there are some issues with power pro too. I would like to mention them.

When you use planer boards with the power pro line the planer board tends to slide towards the lure. The power pro being so thin cannot withstand the planer board and the regular switch of the power pro fails here.

If you want perfection with power pro and planer boards then you will need to use a tension release clip.

Best Braided line for walleye fishing

When you have to fish deeper when there is a lot of garbage in the lake then you would need a strong braided line. That is why I have included this part so that you get a good idea about the best-braided line for walleye fishing.

Walleyes often hang out in deep water where there is garbage. And that’s where you should take your solid fishing line out.

When I mean the best-braided line for walleye fishing then it refers to Fireline.

·         Color Clear Mist

·         Fishing Line Type   Braided

·         Brand Berkley

·         Line Weight 12 pounds

In the market, you can find another popular braided line for walleye fishing and that’s Nanofil.

I find the Nanofil best because it is good for casting a long way and it’s also smooth.

The only issue with the Nanofil braided line is the knots. That’s why you can try a double Palomar knot for this fishing line.

Best fishing line for Bottom Bouncers

Fishing with bottom bouncers is a little bit tricky you know. You need to have proper knowledge about the fishing line you are using, the bait, and the lure. Moreover, you need to know which color of bottom bouncers you have to choose according to the water condition.

That’s why I believe that 10 lb test Fireline works best with bottom bouncers. Fireline works best with bottom bouncers when you go through the snaggy area.

Multiple factors make the Fireline stand out among others and that’s strength and stability.

The Fireline allows you to see what is happening down there as soon as something happens.

While making walleye fixes, the main genuine choices you have are monofilament or fluorocarbon. You want an unmistakable line, clearly, so you don’t scare the fish. Most folks I know are inclined towards fluorocarbon since it’s all the more clear and scraped area safe. In any case, it accompanies a cost…

Fluorocarbon sinks and on the off chance that you’re fishing slow and with a long pioneer, you’re likely going to wind up hauling the base. This will make you catch up more and lose more apparatuses.

All things considered, I prefer to utilize 8 lb. or then again 10 lb. test monofilament for my chief line. I like to utilize 3 to 4-foot pioneers with slow demise rigs, so I need to keep it off the base however much as could reasonably be expected.

The debate over the best fishing line for walleyes is never going to end. This is because everyone has their own experiences and preferences. That’s why go with the one that works for you.
